Welcome to the website for the D&G HandyVan (SCIO) service.
Our mission is to provide safety and security services for the inhabitants of Dumfries & Galloway in need by reason of age, disablement, social or economic circumstances to remain as independent and physically active as they can be, residing in their own home for as long as they wish.
D&G HandyVan became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) in April 2013 and is based at 72-74 High Street, Lockerbie. It serves the whole of the Dumfries & Galloway region in south-west Scotland.
D&G HandyVan (SCIO) is managed by a Board of Directors and a small but committed staff.
Our Gutter Cleaning service is available to our clients at a subsidised charge of £25. As you can see we use a suction cleaner to get the debris out of your gutters. If you would like this service, please call the office on 0800 069 9173 to be added to our list.
Our pictures show our Manager Rachel and Service Co-ordinator Yvette giving a presentation and our Fitter Dave, undertaking our gutter cleaning service which we do at a charge of £25.
The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI)
The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) is an active citizenship programme which empowers #generationchange to make a difference in their communities while developing a host of skills. Each participating school each year, is responsible for directing a £3000 YPI grant to a local charity through a unique programme of teamwork, research and competition.
YPI is one of the biggest and most successful independent initiatives being delivered in Scottish education. It will be active in 275 Scottish secondary schools in 2019/20. More than 170,000 young people have taken part since it was introduced to Scotland by The Wood Foundation in 2008. In the region of £4m has been channelled to grassroots, social services charities championed by young people.
YPI Aims:
In the image below three pupils from Lockerbie Academy – Kegan, Finlay and Isobel with Karen Dalgleish from the Holywood Trust with the cheque for £3000 which will be presented to D&G HandyVan (SCIO). When I first met with them in January, the plan was to use the money should we win, for volunteer recruitment and training. We are looking for training courses for our volunteers and are looking to do a joint staff and volunteers training on Dementia as well as first aid training.
