About Us

We are a charity based in Lockerbie but we cover the whole of the Dumfries and Galloway region. We aim to help older people stay independent at home and also, to enable an early return home from hospital and to prevent inappropriate admissions.

Our History

Founded in 2004 through funding from Help the Aged, HandyVan was a pilot project for a year which ran only in the Annandale and Eskdale area to residents who were 60 years old or over.  HandyVan was managed by Annandale & Eskdale Council for Voluntary Service (AECVS) in partnership with Help the Aged.

In 2009, the HandyVan service became funded by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

D&G HandyVan became a standalone Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation in April 2013.  We are known as D&G HandyVan (SCIO).
